My daddy was in the army. He was stationed at Hickam Field when the bombing began. Him and some fellow soldiers were in a jeep when the Japanese Zero planes first started flying over and bombing. They were simultaneously bombing the ships in the Harbor and the airfield at Hicman Air Base. The Japanese were trying to disable the US fighter planes on the ground in order to avoid any counter attacks on the bombers. My dad and many solders were then on foot running to gunnery shacks to use ground weaponry. Bombs were hitting planes on the ground as well as some of the gunnery shacks where weapons and ammo was kept. The soldiers on the ground were firing any weapons they could at the Zeros. Luckily my Dad survived the attack and went on to serve in the Army until he completed his service.
Fight for those who fought for us.
